TREATING GUM DISEASE SAVE YOUR SMILE! TREAT GUM DISEASE AT THE FIRST SIGN OF TROUBLE

Here is a short video explaining laser gum therapy and how it effects overall health.

HEALTHY GUMS ARE THE FOUNDATION OF A BEAUTIFUL SMILE

The first focus of Dr. Timothy Pfister and our team is your periodontal health, because without foundational support, the long term success of any treatment they perform could be compromised. Your gums form a barrier for your teeth against bacteria and decay. Gum disease can strip you of this protective frame over time. It is progressive and without treatment, can permanently damage both your smile and your overall health. Early treatment is recommended to avoid loss of teeth and bone, as well as increased risks of systemic illnesses, such as diabetes, pancreatic cancer, and heart disease.

DO YOU HAVE GUM DISEASE?

Gingivitis: The first stage of gum disease begins with inflammation of the gums due to plaque buildup. Your gums may bleed when you brush or floss due to an infection by the bacteria that lives in the plaque.

Periodontitis: In the second stage of gum disease, bacteria attack the bone and fibers that support your teeth, and irreversible damage begins. Your periodontal pockets will widen and may begin to recess. Other symptoms may include bad breath and tooth sensitivity.

Advanced Periodontitis: The final stage of gum disease is progressive and will not end until you receive treatment. At this point, the infection will have severely damaged your bone and connective fibers, allowing your teeth to shift. Receding gums, bone loss, and possible tooth loss may occur.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

We offer two effective solutions for treating gum disease, these include:

  • Scaling and Root Planing: This non-surgical treatment is similar to a deep cleaning, where harmful bacteria and plaque are removed to promote a healthier oral environment.
  • Laser Gum Surgery: Dr. Pfister uses advanced laser technology to gently and effectively eliminate bacteria and unhealthy tissues. This procedure is minimally-invasive, and does not involve any cutting or stitching of the gums, as is needed during traditional osseous surgery.
