Conceal Cosmetic Blemishes Using Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is a treatment Dr. Timothy Pfister uses to conceal minor cosmetic blemishes. It involves covering imperfections with a tooth-colored resin. Many of our New Hartford, NY, patients use this cosmetic procedure to address chips or small gaps between teeth. The treatment is affordable and non-invasive. If you are looking for a cosmetic dentist who can address aesthetic issues with your teeth in a way that looks totally natural, Dr. Pfister has over 35 years of experience helping patients like you achieve their best smiles.
Patients often choose bonding as a way to improve the appearance of chipped teeth.
What Types of Cosmetic Defects Can Dental Bonding Address?
Dental bonding uses the same tooth-colored composite resin that is used to restore teeth following cavity treatment. Dr. Pfister can artfully place the pliable material to address:
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Discolored teeth
- Spaces between teeth
- Misshapen teeth
Cosmetic bonding cannot address significantly misaligned teeth. If you suffer from misaligned teeth, our New Hartford dental practice offers Myobrace, braces, and Invisalign.
I have been looking for a good dentist for a few months and I decided to try Aesthetic Oral Arts. I have nothing but positive to say about Dr Phister and his highly trained team of professionals. From the new state of the art dental facility along with his kind and compassionate staff it was obvious to me that I found an excellent dentist.

Bonding versus Veneers
Dental bonding, also known as cosmetic bonding, can provide many of the benefits that porcelain veneers offer at a lower cost. However, it is important to understand that bonding does not last as long or look as realistic. Many choose bonding as an affordable way to decide if they would eventually like to receive veneers.
Both procedures alter the structure of teeth through different means. Dental bonding can reshape teeth without requiring the removal of natural tooth structure. In fact, dental bonding is one of the few cosmetic treatments that is both non-invasive and fully reversible. Veneers require that small amounts of enamel are removed to achieve a natural-looking result.

Treatment Overview
The first step in dental bonding requires preparing the surface of the tooth. This involves cleaning the surface of the tooth and using a special etching compound to ensure that a strong bond between the tooth surface and the bonding material is achieved. Once your tooth is prepped, Dr. Pfister will color-match the composite resin to the shade of your natural tooth.
The putty-like resin will be placed and artfully molded to achieve the desired cosmetic results. Once the material is ready, a special light will be used to harden it. Once the bonding has hardened, Dr. Pfister can make any minor alterations as needed. The bonding may need to be polished to match the luster of the surrounding tooth structure.
How Long Does Dental Bonding Last?
Dental bonding can last 10 years or longer with proper care. When your bonding does need to be replaced, your smile can be restored through a short and convenient treatment at our New Hartford dental practice. Or, if you loved your results and want them to look even more natural and last much longer, we can discuss placing veneers.
